In honor of Women’s History Month
In honor of Women’s History Month, we recognize Nevine Michaan, founder of Katonah Yoga.
Born in Egypt in 1954, Nevine moved to New York at the age of three. In her early 20's, while studying history and comparative religion at Vassar College, she discovered meditation. She came to understand that there is a formality and fit to the universe, and this planted the seeds of her life’s work: identifying and continuously refining a style of yoga that is unlike any other.
A gifted orator, Nevine developed a language for yoga, utilizing stories and metaphor that give the practitioner both formality and structure, as well as wide open psychological spaces for play. Katonah Yoga is a lens layered on top of a traditional Hatha practice. You have to know the rules in order to break them, and Nevine certainly does both. She flips habits on their heads, promoting neuroplasticity, and radiant health as we go through all the seasons of our lives.
Katonah is Magic. Nevine’s Magic. 🪄✨
Nevine, we thank you for your contribution to the modern yoga lineage, we recognize your genius, and we honor you this Women’s History Month.
